The Kumano River is part of the Kumano Kodo and is the only waterway on the planet that is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Pilgrimage route. Pilgrims boated down the river from the Kumano Hongu Taisha to the Kumano Hayatama Taisha in Shingu.
The Kitayama river is a tributary of the Kumano River originate in Odaigahara moutain that one of the highest peak of the Kii Peninsula.
The Pacific ocean, we call “Kumano Nada” which is southern part of the Kii peninsula, Japan current hitting. Both of those river and coast line is in the Yoshino Kumano National Park.
Kayaking these clear waters is a fantastic way to get a unique perspective of Kumano’s spiritual landscape.
