]]>昔から、そう呼ばれていた熊野地方は、かつての紀伊国牟婁（むろ）郡、現在の紀伊半島南部の地域（和歌山県南部～三重県南部）をさします。現在でもその片鱗がうかがえ、豊かな森に包まれています。

そのすべてを体験できる紀伊半島熊野地方。
この熊野古道は豊かな自然に包まれていることはさることながら、その文化的な背景を認められ、修験の「吉野」、神仏習合の「熊野」、真言密教の「高野山」と、三種の山岳霊場を結ぶ熊野古道（紀伊山地の霊場と参詣道）は2006年6月にUNESCO世界遺産に登録されております。
