Our two day tour links two of the three Grand Shrines of Kumano: Kumano Hongu Taisha and Kumano Nachi Taisha. From deep in the heart of the mountains we will walk up and over a first set of mountains on the section called the Kogumotori-goe before descending into the isolated community of Koguchi where we will overnight.
Our lodging will be a local traditional hostel or an old Junior High School that has been transformed into traditional Japanese style rooms.
The next day starts off with a long ascent and culminates with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and rugged coastline. From this lookout we descend to the Nachi shrine complex and the Nachi waterfall, the tallest in Japan. This waterfall is considered a deity and seems like a mystical link between heaven and earth.
