For over 1000 years Kumano has been a pilgrimage mecca.
From the ancient capital of Kyoto pilgrims (including the imperial family) boated to Osaka and then walked down the coast until Tanabe.
From there they headed into the rugged mountains towards Kumano Hongu Taisha. After worshipping they traveled by boat down the Kumano River to Kumano Hayatama Taisha in Shingu.

Elementary School children are requested to be accompanied by a guardian.

Price: 24000 yen/ per person (price includes guide fee, insurance, basic gear rental, Day 1 supper, Day 2 breakfast and Lunch)

What to bring:
Walking shoes, hat, backpack, Day 1 lunch, water bottle, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, clothes that can get wet (swimsuit,etc), footwear that can get wet (sports sandals,etc –footware will get wet so please bring change of footwear), sunscreen, towel and change of clothes for end of the tour, etc
Accomodation is at the Kumano Experience Base, a traditional Japanese farm house amidst rice paddies on the banks of the Kumano River.
Please bring own sleeping bag and mat. (rental available for 2000 yen).
Other accommodation can be arranged at local lodging at extra charge on request.
